SELECTED WORK EXPERIENCE
Cisco
2020 – Present
Director, Global Employee Communications
During our annual listening program, my team asked employees how they felt about communications — and then we took notes: Too many emails. Too many words. More videos, please. Not enough choice.
In response, we introduced a subscription-based, omnichannel editorial strategy segmented by attention span, with three primary channels: Traditional intranet content (stories and videos); an opt-out Axios-style biweekly newsletter; and an opt-in daily bot designed to give the goldfish the gist in 30 seconds or less. To make this happen, we upskilled on AI and best practices in brevity.
We also doubled down on digital content, introducing a video-first strategy for company events and an executive Q&A video series, in addition to our successful series on hybrid work at Cisco.
We draw inspiration from content our employees are interacting with outside work on TikTok, YouTube, and traditional media publications — and to support mixternal communications, we share externally wherever possible, where the content routinely outperforms standard organic social.
Results:
* 90% of employees agree that communications help them stay connected (up from 77% YOY)
* 84% of employees agree that communications help them understand the strategy
* 82% of employees agree that communications give them reasons to believe in the company's future
* 73% of employees agree that communications reduce complexity (up from 62% YOY)
* 55% of employees agree that communications feel personalized (up from 42% YOY)
